Extragalactic MeV γ-ray emission from cocoons of young radio galaxies
نویسنده
چکیده
Strong γ-ray emission from cocoons of young radio galaxies is newly predicted. Considering the process of adiabatic injection of the shock dissipation energy and mass of the relativistic jet in active nuclei (AGNs) into the cocoon, while assuming thermalizing electron plasma interactions, we find that the thermal electron temperature of the cocoon is typically predicted in ∼MeV, which is determined only by the bulk Lorentz factor of the relativistic jet. Together with the time-dependent dynamics of the cocoon expansion, we find that young cocoons can yield thermal bremsstrahlung emissions at energies ∼ MeV.

New prediction of extragalactic GeV γ-ray emission from radio lobes of young AGN jets
We present a new prediction of GeV γ-ray emission from radio lobes of young AGN jets. In the previous work of Kino et al. (2007), MeV γ-ray bremsstrahlung emission was predicted from young cocoons/radio-lobes in the regime of no coolings. In this study, we include cooling effects of bremsstrahlung emission and adiabatic loss. With the initial conditions determined by observed young radio lobes,...

Gamma-ray emission from cocoons of young radio galaxies is predicted. Considering the process of adiabatic injection of the shock dissipation energy and mass of the relativistic jet into the cocoon, we find that the thermal electron temperature of the cocoon is typically predicted to be of the order of ∼ MeV, and is determined only by the bulk Lorentz factor of the jet. Together with the time-d...

Approximately 90 contributions to the 5th Heidelberg Symposium on High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomy (Gamma 2012), presented new results and ideas in the general field of extragalactic high-energy gamma-ray astronomy. The largest contingent of contributions in this field related to active galactic nuclei (AGN), including blazars, radio galaxies, and Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxies. Also, ne...
متن کاملThe Extragalactic Diffuse Gamma-Ray Emission
The all-sky surveys in γ-rays by the imaging Compton telescope (COMPTEL) and the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory for the first time allows detailed studies of the extragalactic diffuse emission at γ-ray energies greater 1 MeV. A preliminary analysis of COMPTEL data indicates a significant decrease in the level of the derived cosmic dif...
متن کاملDirect and reprocessed γ-ray emission of kpc-scale jets in FR I radio galaxies
We discuss the contribution of kiloparsec-scale jets in FR I radio galaxies to the diffuse γ-ray background radiation. The analyzed γ-ray emission comes from inverse-Compton scattering of starlight photon fields by the ultrarelativistic electrons whose synchrotron radiation is detected from such sources at radio, optical and X-ray energies. We find that these objects, under the minimum-power hy...
